The weather is warm. The parks are green and pretty. The hint of summer is in the air. So many great things are happening this month that it is hard not to get excited.
Japan Hobby Show - this three-day hobby showcase starts this Thursday (May 12) at Tokyo Big Sight in Odaiba. I really want to go on Thursday because I might have the opportunity to meet and possible take my picture with Japan's knitting prince, but it looks like I can't get out of work. Damn work!! I will try and get there on Saturday though.
Deisgn Festa is also on this weekend - May 14 and 15
The Thai Festival 2005 is also on this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday. We went last year and it is totally worth it just to eat all that delicious food in the park.
Lots of my fav tv shows are finishing up this month - number one on that list is Veronica Mars! Do you really think Logan did it?
Bob Log III is playing in Tokyo on May 25 as are Yo La Tengo.
Last but certainly not least, the best thing about May is that Darin and I are going on a holiday!!! We leave Tokyo at the end of May and fly direct to New York (aghhh - about 14 hours!!! - need lots of knitting) where we'll stay for a week, then we'll spend time with Darin's family in Milwaukee, and then spend another week in San Francisco catching up with friends. I.CAN'T.WAIT!!!
I also had a great weekend finding lots of goodies (old clover knitting needles that are neither straights nor circs!??!!) at the Salvation Army Bazaar, catching up with a good friend, knitting, chatting with my mum and little brother on Mother's Day for free using ichat - how cool is that program??!! I have been using Skype, but had trouble with echo and other horrible noises....ichat was perfect. The park was really busy on the weekend with the Million Marijuana March, and I'll leave you with a photo of a little chihuahua that was enjoying a massage.
no way logan did it. i don't have a better suggestion for who did, but it wasn't logan. call me idealistic if you want.

I wish I could meet the knitting prince too! Too bad I'm not flying into Tokyo.
That woman massaging the chihuahua looks really upset!
Congrats on the upcoming holiday. I have family in Milwaukee too. Make sure you get some frozen custard at Kopp's. If you want to do some really dorky and fun go eat pizza at the Organ Piper Music Palace. http://www.digitalcity.com/milwaukee/entertainment/venue.adp?sbid=104017013

Wow. A knitting prince... (this is where I say only in Japan...) And the clover needles, what do they look like?
SF!!! That's my neck of the woods. Oh, and you like vintage clothing, right? Have you been shopping in the Haight Ashbury distrct? ImaginKnit would also be a good last stop yarn shop for the flight home from their Massive stock (I seem to recall all Rowan, DB, and other non-jp brands). It is near the Castro district and has a webpage. We also have nature! Don't forget the wonderful California nature stuff.
The trip sounds awesome!

Oops. Added an extra n in Imagiknit http://www.imagiknit.com/
There's lots of wonderful yarn stores in SF, I just haven't made it to them, yet. Knitter's Review has store reviews.

I was brought up believing that it is wrong to play hookey from work. My bestfriend however was a pro at 're-arranging' her schedule and she gave me the best, no-fail call-in sick trick. Make like the dog in the park, hang your head over the edge of your bed and place your call - you will sound awful without even trying! I hope you can make it to the hobby show at least one day, if not Thursday 'Meet the Prince' day!

No the lady in the dog photo is not upset! That's the 'cover my mouth because I'm embarassed and I can't believe my dog is doing that' look - there was lots of laughing and definitely no tears!!

I am so sad I missed the hobby show. I am a huge scrapper (scrapbooking is my life!) but find myself in Osaka for 6 months with my husband for his work. I did not bring any scrap supplies :( Do you know if any Japanese websites or better yet, stores that sell scrapbooking papers, stamps, and other supplies? I'd also love to hear if there are any forums for americans in japan - thanks!
