Yesterday Jake turned a month old. Wow where did that month go?! It's been a blur of breastfeeding, changing nappies, hot baths (for me) and more breastfeeding. In the last week or so Jake has started flashing us non-gas related smiles and that has made the sleep deprivation all worth it. We have still yet to capture it on film though. In a few weeks we will be flying to Australia so we had to get Jake a passport. It has turned out to be a fiasco. Even though Jake was born in Japan as neither of his parents is Japanese he is not entitled to Japanese citizenship. This is fine as he will be a dual US-Australian citizen, but that requires us to go to each Embassy and fill in a bunch of silly forms and take Jake's passport photo. This was much harder than we thought it would be. Here are the results from one photo shoot. BTW, none of these photos made the final cut.
So to cut a long story short, the process for Jake to get Australian citizenship and passport just takes too long, so we've had to go ahead and get him a US passport. So Jake will be travelling to Australia as an American and will need a visa...it's all so silly!!
We did a bunch of other photo shoots and luckily we were able to capture Jake doing blue steel....he's very good at it!
Here is Jake on his one month birthday. This bunny suit was the very first piece of clothing I bought for him when I was about 20 weeks pregnant.
Oh and I finally got around to trying on his Knitty Blu jeans today that I knit for him. I think I knit the 3 month old size....but luckily I tried them on now because I don't think they are going to fit for long. How cute are they - they were definitely worth the effort.
So we are going to have our one month check up on Wednesday and I'm curious to see how much weight he has gained. It's been a hard month but with both of us home, it's been manageable. Darin will often take Jake for a walk in the sling in the morning for an hour or two so I can get a couple of hours of extra sleep. This is a godsend and the boys get their special time together. So this first month has been about getting used to this parenting thing, recovering physically from labor and delivery, trying to get to know Jake, and filling out a bunch of dumb forms. Crafting has taken a back seat but I look longingly at my supplies every now and again. I'm thinking I'll be able to get back into it soon. Fingers crossed.
