In December 2001 (nearly seven years ago) I embarked on a new adventure in the northern hemisphere. I'd just graduated from my Masters Degree at the University of Queensland and completely sold all of my worldly goods and got on a plane to San Francisco because you see I'd left my heart there and I needed it back! I didn't think it through (it was just after 9-11 and the US didn't have the best economy) and just acted on my emotions. Luckily in the end (after a couple of years of hard work) it all turned out well (it's our 4-year wedding anniversary next month!!).
Soon after arriving in the US, I set off on a road trip with Darin and our friend Casey from SF to Oklahoma (Darin's home state). It was a really good time. We soaked in natural hot springs, visited the Grand Canyon, and spent Christmas Eve is the very pretty town of Santa Fe - it was magical.
I also visited my first Walmart - it was in Guymon in the Oklahoma Panhandle - can you see me in the bottom right hand corner?

Oklahoma is a far cry from Tokyo, but Western Australia reminded me a little of Oklahoma. It may have been the dry heat and red dirt. :) Too bad Oklahoma doesn't have super fantastic animals like Australia does though...
